Low-Speed Refrigerated Centrifuge

Refrigerated low-speed centrifuges are built for large-volume, long-duration separation under controlled temperature. They are the mainstay of plasma separation in blood centres and blood banks, bacterial and culture-broth processing in biopharma, and low-temperature clarification of vaccines and biological products. What these workflows share is a large batch per run, a long centrifugation time and samples that must not warm up — so capacity and temperature stability matter more than speed. The MRK refrigerated low-speed series includes ultra-high-capacity floor-standing models and high-capacity benchtop models: the former for blood centres and industrial production, the latter for laboratories and small-to-medium batches, both configurable with a range of swing-out rotors and adapters.

Low-Speed Refrigerated Centrifuge FAQ

Grouped by real-world use cases for refrigerated low-speed centrifuges. See the full FAQ for more questions.

MRK refrigerated centrifuges cover a temperature range of -20℃~+40℃, using an imported compressor unit with both static precooling and dynamic cooling to hold temperature throughout the run and protect temperature-sensitive samples.
Whenever the sample is temperature-sensitive: cells, enzymes, antibodies, nucleic acids, viruses and clinical chemistry items can lose activity or change results when the run warms up. Heat is generated at the rotor and tube walls, so ambient models are more prone to warming during long continuous runs. MRK refrigerated models hold −20 °C to +40 °C, with both static precooling and dynamic temperature control.
Rule out operational causes first: is the lid properly closed, is the chamber heavily frosted, is ambient temperature too high, are the vents blocked. If all that is in order and it still will not cool, the compressor may not be starting, refrigerant may have leaked, or the temperature probe may have failed — that needs service. Frequent lid opening also keeps the temperature from settling.
Mainly capacity and throughput, maximum g-force, the refrigeration system, rotor configuration, control and safety features (rotor recognition, imbalance detection, stored programmes), plus brand and service network. Cheaper models economise on rotor material, damping structure and compressor. Breaking the comparison down this way shows value for money better than comparing headline prices.
